Need for Speed: Shift is one of the next installments in the long-running racing video game franchise Need for Speed published by Electronic Arts. It was announced in January 2009 as part of a three-game announcement that includes Need for Speed: Nitro and Need for Speed: World Online.[3] Shift is under development by Slightly Mad Studios—who, under their former name Blimey! Games helped develop GT Legends and GTR 2 together with SimBin Studios—with help of Michael Mann (EP at EA Black Box) and Patrick Söderlund (senior VP of EA Games and head of DICE). In the new franchising model for the series adopted by EA, Shift takes its place aiming at hardcore gamers and focusing on simulation racing and drifting rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series. It focuses less on street racing and more on simulating the driver experience and is being described as a racing game built by racers for racers. [4]

[edit] Background

[edit] Development

In-game screenshot.[4]

According to an interview from Shift's producer, Geever, the game has been in development for two years. He also mentioned that the game will feature a new "Driver experience". The g-force in the game will make an important role in the game, as it will affect both the player and the AI. The in-car view will also return, making its first appearance in a Need for Speed game since Porsche Unleashed. The in-car view will be highly detailed, and it'll be possible to see the driver changing the gears, moving his head to get a better view of the mirror. Also according to him, all the screenshots are in-game.[5] The crashes will affect the player visually. While crashing, there will be a temporary blur in the screen. The sound aspect will have detailed car crash sound, as well sharp gasp of breath from the driver before a collision. [3]

[edit] Gameplay

[edit] Car Customization

The game's car customization will be both visual and performance and will be more in depth, like alignment, aero, tires, brakes, differential, and gears.[6] Nitrous will also be an option for tuning, but different from previous Need for Speed games in that it will be more realistic.[6] It will be also possible to customize both the interior and the exterior of the car. The game will also have both real-life tracks such as Brands Hatch and fictitious tracks.[3]

[edit] Race Types

Drifting will also return as one of the game modes, however there were no mention to other game modes.[6]

[edit] Features

  • Physics model of NFS: Shift is based on those of the “Ferrari Project”
  • Professional setting is more accurate to drive than in GTR2
  • Eero Piitulainen of Richard Burns Rally has developed a totally new tire-physics model which is mainly responsible for the new physics
  • The difference between the 3 physics-models is in assist levels, while the lowest setting will provide around 10% of more tire grip for beginners
  • Lots of effort has gone into handling development so the game can be driven with a controller
  • Professional setting will require a wheel in order to successfully manage throttle/braking and steering inputs
  • Shift will feature different car classes - from the Golf GTI up to the Pagani Zonda F
  • All cars can be upgraded and tuned from the inside-out
  • Most tracks are licensed European and American circuits with few non-existing tracks
  • There will be few city-circuits
  • The cockpit is the most important visual feature of the game
  • Head-physics is the key difference point to other titles[7]

[edit] Cars

The game will have about 80 cars, ranging from classic cars to modern sport cars. Cars in the game include the Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R, the Mazda RX-7 and the McLaren F1. Electronic Arts announced on May 29 that the featured car for the cover of the game would be the 2009 BMW M3 GT2[8].

[edit] Soundtrack

The soundtrack of Shift will remain similar to that of EA's prior driving sim, Need for Speed: ProStreet, featuring a scored soundtrack rather than a general track list as is seen in previous titles such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Need for Speed: Carbon[9].

Need for Speed: Underground 2 (NFSU2) is a cross-platform racing video game published and developed by Electronic Arts. Released in 2004, it is the sequel to Need for Speed: Underground, and is part of the Need for Speed series, available on GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance and Windows. It was developed by EA Black Box.

The game is based around tuning cars for street races, resuming the Need for Speed: Underground storyline. Need for Speed: Underground 2 provides several new features, such as a broader customization, new methods of selecting races, the "explore" mode (just driving around freely, like the Midnight Club series, in a large city known as "Bayview"). Underground 2 also introduces several SUVs, which could be customized as extensively as other Underground 2 vehicles and used to race against other SUV racers. Brooke Burke is the voice of Rachel Teller, the person who guides the player through the story.

On the Nintendo DS installment, users are able to design custom decals to adorn any vehicle in the game.

The PSP equivalent is Need for Speed: Underground Rivals.

Plot

Need For Speed Underground 2 takes place in Bayview after the events of Need for Speed: Underground. The prologue begins with the player driving in a Nissan Skyline in Olympic City (though the racing scenes are actually in Bayview), the setting of NFS:UG. He then receives a race challenge from a rather ominous personality who offers him a spot on his crew, but "won't take 'no' for an answer." The player races off — despite Samantha's warnings — to find the guy only to be ambushed by a mysterious driver in a rage that totals his Skyline. The driver, who has a unique scythe tattoo, makes a call confirming the accident, and the flashback fades out.

Fast forward to the present day, where we see the player arriving in Bayview via airplane, with a note from Samantha referring him to her friend Rachel (Voiced over by Brooke Burke), who will set the player up there. He also has the keys to Rachel's Nissan 350Z, which is waiting for him outside the airport. The player then has the option to complete a few races in the car before inevitably returning it to the car lot, where Rachel will allow him to choose his first vehicle. This one is free, as it was paid for by the player's insurance from his totaled Skyline.

It is then that the player embarks on a quest to become the top racer in Bayview and eventually take down the man who sabotaged his ride in the flashback, who turns out to be Caleb. After winning many races, the player runs into Caleb's street racing gang, the Street Reapers. The gang has the same vinyl, paint, and rim set. The player challenges them to a series of URL races and eventually gets Caleb's second in command, Nikki, to join his side. Rachel tells the player that Caleb has been manipulating the sponsorship deals throughout Bayview towards him. After the player beats the Street Reapers, an infuriated Caleb challenges the player to one final race in his custom Pontiac GTO. The reward for beating the game is all cars and almost all parts. If the player beats the game 100%, he gets Caleb's car. But, in order to beat the game at 100%, the player must go back and race the events on the World Map in the player's Garage. In the beginning of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, a player is entering Rockport from the Underground racing scene, possibly a connection of Underground 2 and Most Wanted.

[edit] Characters

Name Description
Rachel Teller Samantha's best friend and the player's helper, mentor and part time agent. Rachel will call the player, via SMS, throughout the game letting the player know about unlocks, upgrades, sponsorships, and racing tips. She drives a Nissan 350Z
Caleb Reece A dangerous street racer who totaled the player's car and leader of the Street Reapers. Caleb controls most of the underground racing in Bayview. He drives a Pontiac GTO. He is listed as an acquaintance to Hector Maio, a criminal in Undercover.
Niki Morris A female Reaper who will join the player after he beats her in a URL race. She drives a Modified Ford Mustang GT.And voiced by model Kelly Brook

[edit] Gameplay

In-game Need for Speed: Underground 2 screenshot, in which races are roughly similar to that of Underground and still revolve around import culture.

In addition to the racing modes included in the previous Underground game (Circuit, Sprint, Drag and Drift races), 4 new variations of races have been provided in Underground 2. One racing mode was dropped, this being the Knockout competitions. Still, a Lap Knockout option is available when racing Circuit in non-career races.

A circuit race is a standard race that involves up to four cars driving around a track that loops back to the start line of itself. A circuit race is typically a maximum of four laps and minimum of 2 laps. A sprint race is just like a circuit race except that the track does not loop back to the start line. It's a race from A to B involving a maximum of four vehicles, and because of the track design there is only one lap. Drifting is one of the easier types of racing (depending on difficulty level) in Need for Speed Underground 2. One difference to the drifting mode compared to the original Need for Speed Underground is that the player drifts with the other competitors at the same time. Players race against a maximum of three competitors. Points are awarded when the player successfully slide the car and finishes the drift without hitting any walls. Like the Street X mode in Underground 2, no nitrous oxide is allowed. There are also some special downhill drift races where the player starts at the top of a hill and has to slide down from top to bottom, a drifting equivalent of a sprint race (from point A to point B). In these races, there are no other racers, however there is normal city traffic. Players increase their points by sliding past city cars. Drag racing is a point-to-point race that forces players to use a manual transmission. Steering in this mode is simplified to simply allow for line changes, while the game handles the steering along the lines, and the player focuses more on maintaining an optimum speed for the car. The Nitrous Oxide meter is enlarged and displayed on the bottom right of the screen.

While cruising around the city, players can challenge other cruising opponents in a one-on-one race. The leader is given the freedom to pick his/her racing route, and must attempt to outrun the opponent and distance itself from him/her to as much as 300 meters (1000 feet) to win. This racing formula is similar to that of Tokyo Xtreme Racer and Wangan Midnight video games, which uses health bars instead of distance to determine the winner. Once a certain amount of victories have been won by player in certain levels, the player is awarded a unique part free of charge by another racer.

[edit] SUV

SUVs, also known as Sport utility vehicles, was a new element added to Need For Speed: Underground 2. In this mode, players could modify, tune, and drive SUVs in the same manner as they could with normal cars. Players could choose to race in an event with SUVs only or in a mix of Cars and SUVs.

Like cars, users are able to add on parts to SUVs to increase their performance and handling, however, the added weight of SUVs makes them much harder to maneuver, especially at higher speeds.

The following vehicles were featured:

SUVs were not featured in any later editions of the Need For Speed series (except as non-playable police vehicles), thus making them exclusive to Need For Speed: Underground 2.

[edit] Street X

Street X involves bumper to bumper racing against three other opponents on a short and small circuit based on the Drift tracks from Need for Speed: Underground, except these tracks no longer induce excessive drifts. Instead, this mode emphasizes precise braking and gear-shifting in order to obtain shorter lap times and win races. Like the Drift mode, no nitrous oxide is allowed. These Street X Races are used for drifting on Need For Speed: Carbon and is reminiscent of the Canyon races in Underground 2's successor, Need For Speed: Carbon, where 3 opponents (and the player) race in a tight canyon trail, without the use of nitrous oxide.

[edit] Underground Racing League (URL)

The URL is a set of tournaments which takes place in a specific set of closed tracks outside city streets - either actual racing circuits or airport runways. URL tournaments typically consist of one to three races, with the player racing against five opponents. In tournaments with two or more races, a points system is used. At the end of each race, drivers receive a specific amount of points according to their standing in a race. The total score at the end of these races determines the winner of the tournament.

[edit] Online multiplayer

Need For Speed Underground 2 had online multiplayer capability on PlayStation 2's with broadband connections, and Xbox using Xbox Live. The online servers for PlayStation 2 are disconnected and will shut down in a few months, while EA has shut down servers for Xbox and PC, making this feature disabled, as well as causing disappointment to many loyal fans of the game.

[edit] Cars

As in Need for Speed: Underground, Underground 2 continues to offer similar vehicles for purchase and modification, most of which consist of Japanese models, with a sizable number of European and American models. In addition, Underground 2 is the only game in the Need for Speed series to date to offer three SUVs as racing vehicles, which may be modified more extensively than their compact counterparts. A total of 29 vehicle models are available for both versions of the game plus 2 unique for each of them, the PAL version of the game offers an additional two cars (Peugeot 106 and Vauxhall Corsa) while the NTSC version offers two different alternatives (Acura RSX and Honda Civic).

[edit] Reception

The game sold 9 million copies,[1] and entering the "best-sellers" of each console (PS2's Greatest Hits, Xbox's Platinum Hits and GameCube's Player's Choice).

Reviews were positive,[2] but many elements were criticized, such as having to drive excessive amounts to get to specific races,[3] bland voice acting[4] and strong product placement for companies with no connection to auto racing, such as integrating the logo for Cingular, an American wireless communications company, into the game's messaging system and displaying it on-screen for much of the gameplay.[5] The GameCube version was also bashed for its unstable frame rate and inferior graphics.[6] The hip-hop slang used by the characters (such as calling the money "bank"), the comic book cut scenes, and a lack of police also garnered criticism.

Need for Speed: Underground (NFSU) is the seventh racing game in the Need for Speed video game series developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts in 2003.

Need for Speed: Underground reboots completely the franchise, ignoring the previous games and is the first game in the series to offer a career mode featuring a storyline, and a garage mode that allowed players to fully customize their cars with a large variety of brand-name performance and visual upgrades. All races take place in a generic city at night, though the city bears some resemblance to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Rather than exotic cars, Underground featured vehicles associated with the Import Scene. Underground was commercially successful, and inspired a sequel.

It is rumored that the car manufacturers were very strict in how their vehicles were to be portrayed in this game, especially considering the "illegal street racing" reputation of the tuner culture.[citation needed] EA took some effort in making the races appear as sanctioned racing events, and included a public service announcement in the game's introduction. In addition, vehicles do not have damage models.

Plot

The player starts straight into the action, at a circuit race driving a uniquely styled Acura Integra Type R with wide body kit, easily winning over his opponents...only to be woken up by Samantha from his daydreaming.

Samantha is the player's friend in the new environment; she shows the player how the console with the races works, who's who, and makes fun of the player's starter car. Eddie (and his orange-metallic Nissan Skyline), is the leader of the Eastsiders and current top racer of the streets, and Melissa is his girlfriend.

Time passes, races are won. The player meets other racers, and eventually gathers a small list of nemeses who continually challenge him and are defeated. He's introduced to TJ, who promises unique vehicle upgrades in exchange of beating time trial challenges; Samantha does the same from time to time, offering unique visual modifications instead.

The player's successive victories don't impress Eddie. First, he mocks the player's skill, saying he has a long way to go to 'roll his streets'. Later in the game, the player builds enough hype to be too hard to ignore, so Eddie challenges him to beat Samantha in a sprint race before coming after him; the player's willingness in going for it infuriates her. Samantha totals her Civic's engine trying to beat the player, unsuccessfully. TJ takes the junked car for himself after the event.

When the player comes close to reaching #1 in all kinds of races, Eddie tries to once again get rid of his rival. Around the same time, the Player sees TJ in Samantha's recovered car, now working again, but has been vandalized. Both run a circuit race worth the other's vehicle, which the player wins. The player returns the car to Samantha to make amends, and she gives the player a choice of a wide body kit for his car.

Right after the touching moment, Eddie challenges the player and loses, like everyone else who ever challenged the player so far. Before any victory can be sung, a mysterious, legendary silver Nissan 350Z challenges the player for a last run through the Market Street circuit. A challenger who, after being beaten by the player, is revealed to be Eddie's girlfriend, Melissa.

That event solidifies the player's status as the new best underground racer in the city.

[edit] Gameplay

A circuit race with a Honda Civic Si Coupe, PC version

Circuit is a standard race that involves racing with up to four opponents cars around a loop track for one lap or more, and is the main mode of the game. For about the last 4 races of underground mode, the number of players decreases to only 1 rival, and the number of laps reach up to seven (Endurance Race)

Knockout Mode is similar to previous Need for Speed titles, involves "knocking out" the last racer who passes the starting line in each lap until the final leader of the race remains, and wins the race. In the case of Underground, Knockout sessions have a maximum of three laps for four racers.

Sprint mode is a variation on the Circuit mode, where the contestants race in a point-to-point track instead of loop tracks. These races are typically shorter than "circuits" (with a maximum of 8 km in length), so players are required to be more cautious of any mistakes during racing.

Drifting is the most challenging and technical aspect of the game. Drift mode consists of one player in a short loop track, where the objective is to collect as many points as possible by drifting along the track. The player competes with three other contestants, who appear to accumulate scores along with the player during the drift session. The player would be required to beat these scores in order to obtain top positions.

Bonuses are awarded for players who drift in the outer borders of the track, drift vertically, or perform chained-drifting (continuous drifting by constantly steering the vehicle during drifts to maintain speed); if the player succeeds in ending a drift without collisions onto the sides of the track, the collected points are added into the score, otherwise, the collected points are cancelled.

Drift mode is the only type of racing where time taken to complete the track does not matter, since players are given the freedom to complete the allocated number laps at their own pace. This may explain the absence of nitrous oxide in this mode, since it serves no apparent purpose in this situation.

Drag racing is the second most technical form of race in the game. It involves racing against one or three cars on typically straight tracks, and attempting to obtain top positions to win. In order to master Drag mode, players must employ good timing and reflexes for gear shifting, redlining, overtaking, and the use of nitrous oxide boosts;Because the player is going to put the engine to its limits the mode places particular emphasis in monitoring the tachometer during races, which is enlarged and situated on the leftmost portion of the screen. Steering in this mode is simplified to simply allow for lane changes, while the computer handles the steering along the lanes, and the player focuses more on maintaining an optimum speed for the car.

Two conditions will result in players being forfeited during a drag race: head-on collisions with an opponent, barriers or dividers (being 'Totaled'); or blown engines as a result from prolonged redlining and the subsequent overheating of the engine.

Need for Speed: Undercover is the 12th installment of the popular racing video game series Need for Speed, developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS[3] and mobile phone in November 2008.[9][10][11] The game was later released on the iPhone OS on April 27, 2009. The games take some time after Need For Speed: Carbon and some time before Need for Speed: World Online. According to EA, the game has sold over 5.2 million copies on all 8 platforms combined.[12] Need for Speed: Undercover is also the last Need for Speed game on the PlayStation 2.

Gameplay

Undercover features a new open world map[13] (like the Midnight Club series) consisting of 109 miles (175 km) of road[14] and a large highway system, making it the largest Need for Speed "world" EA has created so far.[14] The game's environment consists of four boroughs: Palm Harbor, Port Crescent, Gold Coast Mountains, and Sunset Hills. Some boroughs are the same as Need for Speed Most Wanted, just shifted to different positions.[15] These four boroughs make up the city, Tri-City, presumably a city located on Gulf Coast.[16] The road system includes four water crossings, going clockwise: the Main Guy Causeway (Ocean Expressway connecting Sunset Hills to Port Crescent via man-made island), the Vale Causeway (Sunset Hills to Palm Harbor), the North T Causeway (Man-made island to Palm Harbor), and the Memorial Tunnel (Port Crescent to Palm Harbor).[15] Undercover also features a new continuous highway system.[7] In previous installments, highways were relatively small circuits concentrated within separate boroughs.[17] In Undercover, the main highway circles Tri-City, with each of the four boroughs sharing a piece of the larger circuit.[15] The longer highway length gives a more realistic shape, with long straight areas, gentle curves, rest areas and large interchanges.[15] Lastly, the entire map is open from the start of the game, unlike previous installments where boroughs had to be unlocked.[15]

The police system is similar to Most Wanted and Carbon. It uses a similar bar graph at the bottom of the screen that moves between the blue "Evade" (shown as green on PS2 and Wii), on the right side, and the red "Busted", on the left side, depending on the player's speed and proximity to police.[15] The "Cooldown" period after evading pursuing police units returns as well, along with heat levels, speedbreaker and pursuit breakers. Also similar to Most Wanted and Carbon, police vehicles range from generic city patrol cars to federal pursuit cars accompanied by police heavy SUVs and helicopters.[15] Unlike previous games, the type of police that appear is not entirely dependent on heat levels (i.e. high level police can appear at low heat levels and vice versa) but more on the player's wheelman level (i.e. progress through the game). At a high wheelman level, federal police will immediately join the pursuit, even if the player was at a low heat level.[15][18] Common police tactics such as road blocks, rolling road blocks, spike strips, and PIT maneuvers are all featured, although some are only used by federal police. In addition, the player gets to drive a police vehicle in a mission in career mode, which consists of stealing a state police car.[15]

The damage system returns to Undercover and is similar to Need for Speed: ProStreet. It differs from ProStreet in that the damage is only cosmetic and does not adversely affect performance.[15] However, a car can still be "Totaled" in the new "Highway Battle" mode and in some missions in career mode.[15] During these missions a car damage bar is displayed, which indicates the amount of damage done to the player's vehicle.[15] The primary goal of these missions is to deliver certain cars without totaling them.[15] In general, damage is automatically repaired after every career race or police pursuit,[15] unlike in ProStreet where it had to be repaired by the player at a cost (either money or a "repair marker").[19]

The customization of cars is similar to Need for Speed: ProStreet but has been enhanced on the level of graphics and detail.[20][21] The new color palette and the "matte" paint were improved.[21] The game also features aftermarket parts like Carbon did.[22] As a bonus, EA added a vinyl similar to the vinyl of the BMW M3 GTR in Need For Speed: Most Wanted.[23]

The player can gain reputation points as they progress through the game's story by participating in side missions or performing flashy maneuvers in a police chase.[15] In turn, this grants the player access to bonus missions, adding a small RPG-like element to gameplay.[15]

[edit] Plot

A few days before Undercover's release, EA revealed a few plot details. A video was uploaded that showed the player evading capture from the Tri-City Police Department (TCPD).[2] Another source revealed that the player gets aided by detective Chase Linh and Lt. Jack Keller,[2] whilst also making friends with a character named Carmen Mendez, played by singer and actress Christina Milian.

In addition, six criminal characters were revealed, who are:

  • Chau Wu
  • Gregory "G-Mac" MacDonald (a former undercover police officer from the TCPD, who's gone native, played by actor David Rees Snell from the television series "The Shield")
  • Rose Largo played by actress Heather Fox
  • Hector Maio played by actor Kurt Caceres (from the television series "Prison Break")
  • Freddy "Nickel" Rogers played by actor Lawrence B. Adisa
  • Zack Maio played by actor Joshua Alba (brother of the actress Jessica Alba)

There are three other characters to note: Jonathon Cross (the police sergeant in Need for Speed Most Wanted who became bounty hunter in Need for Speed Carbon is listed as an acquaintance to "G-Mac", whilst Isabel "Izzy" Diaz (one of the "Blacklist" members in Most Wanted) and Caleb Reece (the main antagonist in Underground 2) are listed as acquaintances to Hector Maio.[24] Additionally, Rachel Teller from Underground 2 is listed as an acquaintance to Rose Largo.[citation needed] However, these four characters don't appear in the game, making them only a loose connection between Undercover and previous installments in the franchise. Ryan Cooper, the character in ProStreet, is briefly referred to in dialog heard on a police scanner.[citation needed] During this sequence, a police officer says he has a man named, Ryan Cooper, in the back of his car who refuses to speak or remove his racing helmet (this is considered a reference to ProStreet because Ryan Cooper never spoke or was seen without his helmet).[citation needed]

The player is set in the story as a police officer, who goes undercover into the criminal underground of Tri-City, a fictional city where the game is based.[16] The player has to take on dangerous 'jobs' and compete in races in order to infiltrate and take down a ruthless international crime smuggling syndicate, consisting of illegal street racers and car thieves.[15] The player's only contacts to the police are federal handler Chase Linh, played by Maggie Q, and later Lt. Jack M. Keller played by Paul Pape.[25] In time, the player begins to prove himself as an excellent racer and wheelman.[15] As he goes deeper undercover, he ends up having to take out different criminal "friends" he meets but mistakenly frames Chau Wu, a ruthless leader of a crime syndicate.[15] Chau Wu then calls the player and tells him that there is only one thing he can do to redeem himself.[15] There is a car stolen from the dockyards with incriminating evidence in it.[15] Chau Wu believes G-MAC stole it, and he wants it back.[15] In reality, Hector and Zack Maio are the ones who stole it, not realizing who the car belonged to.[15] Carmen, fearful that Chau Wu is coming after her, asks the player to take the BMW M6 (Porsche 911 GT2 on PS2 and Wii versions) from her, however, Chau Wu finds out that the player now has his car.[15] He phones the player demanding the car back and will use Chase Linh as a hostage until the player does.[15] As a result, the player takes the car to Chau Wu, hoping to save her but when he gets there, he discovers that Chase Linh has been working with Chau Wu all along.[15] Chase Linh then murders Chau Wu and his henchman with a silenced pistol recovered from Chau Wu in order to frame the player with his death and escapes in the car, taking any of Chau Wu's possessions that were in it with her.[15] The police, thinking the player is the killer, come after him but Lt. Jack Keller tells him to lose them and go after Chase.[15] Eventually, she is apprehended and charged.[15] Later, Lt. Keller tells the player that Carmen testified in return for not being charged for any criminal offences and that the evidence used against Chase Linh was Chau Wu's PDA, which contained information regarding the dockyard cars and other criminal activities.[15] In the last scene, Carmen asks the player to drive her to the university because she is currently attending as a med student.[15]

[edit] Development

Electronic Arts CEO, John Riccitiello, stated that the previous release in the series (ProStreet) was only "an okay game...[and was] not good"[9] and that Undercover would "be a much better game".[26] He stated Undercover would have a considerably longer development cycle than its predecessors because the Need for Speed development team had been split up into two teams, both of which would work on a two-year development cycle with future titles, alternating releases between them.[26] Riccitiello stated he was "torturing" the development team with a tight development cycle in the past.[26] "When this change was implemented in mid-summer 2007, one team started working on Undercover (giving it only a 16.5 month development cycle), while the other team (that finished ProStreet) would start working on the next title."[27] Riccitiello also stated Undercover took inspiration from action films such as The Transporter, with a large embedded narrative.[9][10]

Frank Gibeau (President of the EA Games label) stated during development that due to the fact that the sales of ProStreet didn't live up to EA's hopes for the game, the Need for Speed franchise would go back to its roots (although Undercover was already being developed before ProStreet). "John Doyle (Developer at EA Black Box) said that Undercover would feature a brand new game mechanic and a 'Most Wanted-ish' sandbox style of gameplay."[27] The game was also provided with an all new damage system.[11] Andy Blackmore (Senior Vehicle Concept Artist at EA) explained how one of the Porsche cars that was "conceptualized" in the game was then brought to life for the game from a brief description to being approved by Porsche.[28]

Reception of Undercover was met with complaints about the game's easy difficulty, repetitiveness, and poor texture maintenance. One reviewer went as far as recommending the game's rivals such as Rockstar Games' Midnight Club: Los Angeles and EA's own Burnout Paradise.[37]

The IGN review was critical of the PS3 version of Undercover, calling it a "poor game with a ton of problems"[40] and with "practically no redeeming qualities".[37] IGN also commented on how the reason for having an open world environment was lost because a player could only start an event from the map.[37] However, the Xbox 360 and the PC versions received a higher score in contrast to the PS3 version in the IGN review, due to the fewer severe problems that occurred.[38][39]

The 1UP.com review called the game only "fairly successful," but praised the games selection of cars and tighter handling on the vehicles.[18] However, the "leveling" system that unlocks cars and upgrades was criticized for resembling "grinding".[18]

In general, sparse traffic, wide-open roads, and poor AI led to complaints about extremely easy difficulty, however, one reviewer commented on how this may have been a marketing ploy to target a wider audience.[37][31][36]

The reception to the live-action cut scenes was almost universally negative, with many critics noting that the videos were poorly acted and lacked purpose.[18][36] The lack of connection between the crime fighting undercover cop story and the racing gameplay was particularly criticized by IGN who said, "You ... run missions where you steal cars, make 'special' deliveries and things like this now and again, but you never actually see any sequences that show how the cops are putting the evidence together or anything of that sort. Chase Linh will tell you [what] you need to do to get on the inside of a racing group in order to get dirt on them, and then after a race she'll say 'We have enough, let's move in.' [But you're left asking: How did that help at all?]"[41] Finally, the in-game frame rate received little praise, and GameSpot particularly criticized the PS3 version for this problem resulting in a lower score on the platform compared to the Xbox 360 and PC versions.[33][34]

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (NFS:MW) is a racing video game, developed by EA Black Box and first released by Electronic Arts in North America on November 11, 2005. It is part of the Need for Speed series of games. The game reintroduces police chases into a large body of the game's street racing-oriented gameplay, with certain (but not all) customization options from the Need for Speed: Underground series. The game is also succeeded by Need for Speed: Carbon, which serves as a sequel to Most Wanted.

Most Wanted has been released for Windows-based personal computers, the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360 (as a launch title), Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and mobile phones. Another version of Most Wanted, titled Need for Speed: Most Wanted: 5-1-0 has been released for the PlayStation Portable. This is the First game in Need for Speed (series) to be rated T (It Would not be rated T again until the release of Need for Speed: Undercover which is also rated T).

Need for Speed: Most Wanted 'Black Edition', a collector's edition of Most Wanted, was released in celebration of the Need for Speed series' tenth anniversary and in conjunction with the release of Most Wanted. The Black Edition features additional races, bonus cars and other additional content. The Black Edition also comes with a special feature DVD that contains interviews and videos about the game. The Black Edition was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the United States and Australia;[1] only the PlayStation 2 version of Black Edition was released additionally for Europe.[1][2]

Plot

The player arrives in the fictional city of Rockport with a racing version of the BMW M3 GTR. Following Mia Townsend (played by Josie Maran), the player proves his driving prowess as he is pursued by a veteran police officer named Sergeant Cross, who vows to take down the player and end street racing in Rockport.[3]

Races seem to be in the player's favor until a particular group of racers, led by the game's antagonist, Clarence Razor Callahan, sabotage and seize the player's car.[4][5] Without a car to escape in, the player is arrested by Cross, but is later released due to lack of evidence.[6] Mia picks up the player and then informs the player about Razor's new status on the Blacklist, a group of 15 drivers most wanted by the Rockport Police Department. She then helps the player by assisting the player in acquiring a new car and working his way up the Blacklist. Rivals are defeated one by one, and the player is rewarded with reputation, new rides, and ride improvements with every Blacklist member taken down. As new boroughs are opened up throughout Rockport ( Rosewood, Camden Beach, and Downtown Rockport ), Mia also sets up safehouses for the player to lie low in, in exchange for placement of "side bets" on the player's races.

The final challenge for the #1 spot on the Blacklist pits the player in a race against Razor, with the player emerging as the victor, thus reclaiming the BMW. When Razor refuses to relinquish ownership of the car and attacks Mia after she confiscates the keys from Razor, she subdues him, while revealing herself to be an undercover officer. Mia throws the keys to the player, and tells him to escape the incoming police force. Razor is taken into custody and the player is pursued by the entire Rockport Police Department under the command of Cross.[7]

The player manages to slip away from Cross and abandons Rockport City by launching the BMW over an old incomplete bridge that Mia points out to the player in her last phone call.[8] After the player's escape, Cross brings up the player's rap sheet and adds him to the National Most Wanted List. In addition to Razor, the entire Blacklist is arrested with the "help" of the player.[9]

Need for Speed: Carbon's storyline acts as a sequel, set at an undetermined time just after Most Wanted.

[edit] Cut scenes

The cut scenes in the game are live-action videos shot with real actors and set pieces, and CGI effects are added to car exteriors and environments for extra visual flair. The videos are presented in a significantly different style from the Underground series, and this presentation of cut scenes is used again in Carbon and Undercover.

[edit] Gameplay

Most Wanted, like other Need for Speed games, is essentially a driving and racing game, where the player selects one car and races against a time limit or other racers to reach a destination. Police chases have once again been integrated into certain racing sessions, in which the police employ vehicles and tactics to stop the player's car and arrest the player, like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, and Need for Speed: Carbon. As players take control of faster cars and increasingly rely on nitrous oxide speed boosts, the oxide meter now refills automatically for the first time since its introduction in Underground, and driving sequences become fast-paced and intense similar to the Burnout series.

Three distinct regions are offered in the city of Rockport, along with cycling weather. There is no racing at night; all events take place between sunrise and sunset. A Grand Theft Auto-like Free Roam mode is provided as in Need for Speed: Underground 2, but is still limited to Career mode, as well as pursuit-based events in other modes.

[edit] Modes

The game provides players with three game modes. The Quick Race mode allows the player to select a car and an event and immediately start racing. The available cars and events are unlocked as the player progresses through the storyline in the Career mode. Achieving goals by winning races and performing a number of actions, dubbed "Milestones", during police pursuits, as well as a minimum Bounty are needed to advance in the storyline and race against any of the mode's 15 Blacklist racers. In the Xbox 360 version, the player is awarded with Achievement Points each time a Blacklist opponent is defeated. Career mode introduces a new feature - the ability to win a Blacklist opponent's car ("pink slip"), bonus functions, extra cash or car parts and decors, after defeating the opponent in question. These come in the form of six markers - the rival's pink slip (which is concealed as a bonus marker), two bonus function markers, and three custom backroom parts markers of which there is a body part, visual upgrade, and performance marker ("Junkman Marker") that the player can select - of which the player can choose only two. New cars and parts are also unlocked as the player progresses through Career mode by beating Blacklist racers.

In addition to the Quick Race and Career modes, there is also a "Challenge" mode comprised of 68 progressively difficult challenges where players are required to successfully complete Tollbooth races and pursuit challenges, such as tagging a number of police cars. The pre-tuned cars used in each Challenge is fixed, ranging from mostly Career cars with poor handling to traffic vehicles such as a cement truck or police cars. Additional bonus cars may be unlocked as the player progresses through Challenge mode.

In terms of actual variations of races, Most Wanted inherits several racing modes prevalent in its Underground predecessors. The game's four existing modes: Circuit races, point-to-point Sprint races, lap knockout races and Drag races, remain largely unchanged since the first iteration of Underground, while Drifting, Street X, Underground Racing League tournaments and Outrun racing are removed. Meanwhile, Most Wanted see the introduction of two new racing variations, which places emphasis on speed. The first mode is known as "Tollbooth," where a player races alone to designated checkpoints along a point-to-point route before time runs out; the more time a player has as they reach a toll booth, the more time they have to arrive at the next one. The second mode, dubbed "Speedtrap", sees racers competing with each other to get the highest accumulated speed record at multiple traffic cameras. At a speed trap/traffic camera, players accelerate their car to aim for the highest possible speed. Accumulated speed is reduced over a period of time after an opponent crosses the finish line first.

[edit] Pursuit system

The player's car is in pursuit by several undercover state police cars and a police helicopter in Free Roam mode. This screenshot also depicts the use of simulated HDRR on the sunny sky and surface lighting.

Most Wanted features pursuit evasion in the game for the first time since Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. In Career mode, police pursuits may occur during a race or during free roaming through the city, depending on the frequency of the police units in the area and the offenses players have committed. The player can initiate a pursuit immediately from the game's Safe House or menu by choosing an unfinished Milestone or a Bounty challenge. Pursuits can also be initiated by selecting an appropriate Challenge in Challenge mode. Traffic offenses committed by the player are known in game as Infractions. These include speeding, excessive speeding, reckless driving, damage to property, hit and run (the player hits traffic and continues moving), ramming a police unit, immobilizing a police unit, dodging roadblocks, dodging spikestrips, and others.

The police pursuit system is significantly more complex than its previous Hot Pursuit incarnations. The manner in which the police handle a player is now determined by the "heat level" of the player's current car (although this has been similarly utilized in Hot Pursuit 2). Heat levels, which increase with the length of a police pursuit and the amount of damage caused by the player during the pursuit, add a twist to the pursuit. The higher the car's heat level, the more aggressive the police units are against the player, employing additional tactics and tools, such as roadblocks, spike strips, police helicopters and heavier and faster police cars such as police SUV's. Up to five police cars may be observed pursuing a single car at Heat level 1 and up to twenty-five may be present in Heat level 5 (thirty police cars are pursuing the player's car in the final pursuit). There are five heat levels in the game (with a hidden sixth and seventh heat level at the end of Career mode and in the Black Edition respectively), three authoritative levels (Civic/Local, State, and Federal), and ten police vehicles.

Players will have to be careful in pursuits as a higher wanted level may prompt Cross to join the pursuit in a Chevrolet Corvette C6 with customized paintwork.[1]

In Career mode, pursuits are integrated into the game in such a way that it is necessary to challenge Blacklist racers. Completing "Milestones," which involves committing at least a specified amount of traffic offenses or pursuit lengths during a chase, and collecting an amount of "Bounty", a form of credit accumulated as players continue to evade the police or damage police units, are requirements. A car's Heat level may be reduced by changing the physical appearance of a car by changing body parts or paint color, an alternative to lowering the players heat is by using another purchased car with a lower heat level to race in the streets. Rap Sheets, with records such as the player's infractions, cost to state, deployed tactics and pursuit lengths, are also available for viewing by "hacking" into police records, and also includes the player's standing in each individual record against those of other Blacklist racers.

Players are provided with several additional features which are useful during pursuits. The Speedbreaker, provided within the driving interface, slows down time (similar to bullet time), momentarily adds weight to the player's car allowing it to become more difficult for other vehicles (especially police vehicles) to push around, and induces a drift. This allows the player a limited amount of time to quickly maneuver the car out of difficult situations, or assess an escape route through a road block or spike strip blockade.[2] Another feature in Most Wanted are Pursuit Breakers, road-side objects which are designed to collapse when a player uses their car to knock down its support, either damaging or disabling following police cars (which can be visually seen in many cases). In one example, if a player smashes through a gas station, the roof of the station falls crushing unlucky police units following them.[3] In addition, players are also required to ensure that they are not spotted again by the police shortly after evading all police units; a "Cooldown" period is required to be met before police units give up and cancel a perimeter search of the player's car. Cooldown spots, hiding spots where players may park in, are also scattered around the city in places like underground carparks, helping to shorten the Cooldown period and end pursuits quickly.

While the game features police cars, including those in the form of fictional police cruisers, Pontiac GTOs, Chevrolet Corvette C6s, and fictional SUVs, Most Wanted does not allow players to play as a pursuing police in chases. However, players may drive several police cars in Challenge mode, but are solely used in checkpoint races and police pursuits, where the police are still pursuing the player. Police cars are also accessible via special Save creator that unlocks hidden vehicles in game such as the plain Red M3-GTR and traffic cars. It's also revealed that the police cruisers have a much better performance than the early-stage player cars. Non-undercover police cars are coded that when the player drives them, they're physically breakable but won't break down. Cross' Custom Chervolet Corvette is shown to be one of the few cars that can break down in the player's hands.

[edit] Online play

A decision was made not to include online play for the PlayStation 2 version (including the Black Edition, despite fan requests[who?]). However, the PlayStation Portable version of the game would support this feature.[10] Both the PlayStation 2 versions of Underground and Underground 2 had previously included online play.

EA eased support to the Windows version of the game very early in its life cycle, The latest patch for the Windows version (1.3) was released on December 6, 2005.[11]

[edit] Graphics

Promotional screenshot of Rockport's fall foliage of Most Wanted for the Xbox 360 with Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The depiction between all of the versions graphics-wise are not the same especially on portable versions. The PSP version (also known as Need for Speed: Most Wanted: 5-1-0) has a lower frame rate as well as most other games, due to hardware restrictions. The Microsoft Windows version, of course, varies by hardware and can look better compared to the console versions. The recommended hardware or above has a similar frame rate to the XBOX and Xbox 360 versions. It should also be noted that game makes heavy use of the HDRR and motion blur effects to give a more realistic feel.

Most Wanted, like the Underground series, avoids the use of major vehicle damage on all racing models, with only scratched paint and heavily cracked windscreens comprising the whole of the racers' damage modeling. Police cars, however, are subject to extreme physical body damages, and immobilization if they flip over or have been heavily damaged by "pursuit breakers" or the player's car.

[edit] Cars

There are a wide range of cars available for the main Career mode of the game. Tuners return from Underground 2 (albeit with a reduced selection) but SUVs do not return except as non-playable police vehicles. Exotics make their first appearance since Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and classic muscle cars featured in the Black Edition are new to the series. As the game progresses, better and faster cars are unlocked and races get faster and more intense as the player makes his/her way through the game. Cars must either be purchased at car lots or won by getting the pink slip to a Blacklist Racer's car, as detailed in the Modes section. Cars can be purchased at car lots in stock condition with no enhancement whatsoever. Not all of them are available or affordable for purchase at the beginning stages of Career mode and must be unlocked by defeating a certain Blacklist member.

Also, you can also download "modded" cars, or cars that are made by enthusiast.

[edit] Car customization

As in the preceding Underground installments, the performance and physical appearance of the player's car could be extensively modified, but options for exterior and interior modifications have been significantly reduced to only the essentials. The customization of side mirrors, lights, exhausts and individual body kit pieces were dropped from body customization. However, instead of individual body kit pieces, up to 6 whole body kits can be chosen, some of which widen the car's stance. The "Car Specialties" customization (including neon, nitrous purge, hydraulics, spinners, doors, hoods, and trunk audio) have been completely eliminated with the exception of window tint and custom gauges. Paint customization is limited to the main body color (with mirror, exhaust, spoiler, roof scoop, and brake color options gone) and only one vinyl can be used at a time (as opposed to Underground 2 where up to four could be used at a time). Unlike the Underground games, visual customization is used to lower the car's "heat level", instead of increasing the car's "Visual rating". Additionally, players are allowed to assume a sleeper appearance (leaving the exterior of the car unmodified or barely modified) for cars without penalty in Most Wanted.

[edit] Soundtrack

As in other EA Black Box Need for Speed games, Most Wanted's soundtrack comprises a licensed selection of hip hop, rock, metalcore and electronica/techno music. Additionally, Paul Linford provided interactive scores for police pursuit sessions.

[edit] Need for Speed: Most Wanted: 5-1-0

Need for Speed: Most Wanted: 5-1-0 is a PlayStation Portable port of Most Wanted, released on the same day as its console and personal computer counterparts. Similar to Most Wanted, Most Wanted: 5-1-0 features a similar Blacklist 15 listing and Career Mode, with the addition of "Tuner Takedown", a "Be The Cop" mode not featured on Most Wanted. Most Wanted: 5-1-0 lacks many elements of its other console and PC counterparts, like cut scenes, a storyline and a free roam mode, and contains minor differences (including listing the real name of a Blacklist racer rather than his/her nickname). The title of the game is based on the numerals "5-1-0", which is the police code for street racing.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted has received positive reviews. It has an aggregate score of 82 out of 100 on both Metacritic and Game Rankings. GameSpot, who gave the game a 8.4 out of 10 praised the game for its "sharp graphics" and "outstanding sound effects", but criticized the AI for being too easy at first, but too hard later on.

IGN gave it an 8.0 out of 10 "great" rating, praising almost every element of the game. Praise was given to the map design, described as "a crazily chromed out, sepia-tone landscape of industrial structures", car modeling, saying "The car models are especially sleek looking too", the car line up and the return of exotics. Particularly strong praise was given to the police system, saying "The cops are never that smart, but they continually grow in aggressiveness and numbers." and "they add that very necessary component of challenge, annoyance, and heat that makes this game so fun". Praise even went to the cut scenes and their casting, which usually falls victim to critics, saying "this mixture of animated, highly colored FMV characters and stylized backgrounds is both imaginative and refreshing".[20]

This game had various difficulties with PS2 slimline and normal sized consoles, If it was initially played on a Slimline PS2 and subsequently normal sized it caused various glitches and caused the game to freeze or black out a whole user's TV.

GTA: San Andreas Easter Eggs

  • Idle Screensaver

Do not move CJ for 2-3 minutes. The display will be removed and the camera will start to follow and zoom into any activity going on (ie. Pursuits, fights, people talking).

  • Change the size of the moon

Shoot the moon with the sniper rifle and it will grow until it reaches a certain size when he will shrink when you shoot it again.

  • Civilian Lemmings

Go to the gym in Las Venturas, and through the bomb garage next to it. Stand in that alley and look at the building across the street to your right -- and you'll see people jumping and walking off the roof. It will only happen if you stand in that alley and watch it from there. It's pretty much a Lemmings Easter Egg since Rockstar North made Lemmings (the company was known as DMA then)

  • Funny License Plates

If you import a car at the docks, most but not all cars have plates that differ from normal ones. One says "our fergie", or "disco stu", and a really special one says "ea sucks". Try it out.

  • Jesus Saves

In Los Santos there is a wall painting with a heart, Mary and an angel on it and it says: Jesus Saves. In GTA 1 and 2 on the buildings where you saved it said the same thing.

  • Gant bridge easter egg

Get a jetpack and fly to the top of the gant bridge. At the top is a sign saying: "There are no easter eggs up here. Go away."

  • CJ Sings

If you leave the game on and don't do anything CJ will sing songs heard on the radio. The songs you will most likely hear CJ sing is the songs on your favorite radio station.

GTA: San Andreas Secrets

  • Sex Toy Weapon

In Los Santos, go inside any police station and go into the shower room. Inside you will find a purple sex toy you can use as a very powerful weapon.

  • Infinite Photos

First, save your game (with a camera). Now, press L1 to take pictures of any photos you want (save it in your gallery), until you're done photographing. When you are, reset the console. The photos you have taken will still be in your gallery, only you won't have lost any film!

  • Fast and Easy way to upgrade weapon skills

Take the gun you want to be upgraded and aim it at a tire of any vechicle. Then just keep firing and your skill builds up quick.

  • Use the Vortex as a Submarine

Use the Vortex between El Quebrados and the abandoned airfield to take the small unique jump ramp that's on the back of the small shack it's parked next to. When you land in the water, the unique jump slow-motion cinema should keep going, with the camera fixed in one spot. Drive way out into the reservoir, and towards the dam, to the left of the camera's view. You'll disappear from view, but keep going. Eventually you'll run into the side of the dam and the cinema will end, leaving you under water and able to steer the Vortex like a submarine, without draining lung capacity or anything, as if you weren't underwater at all.

  • Chilliad Challenge easy win alternative way

Another way to easily complete every race in the Chilliad Challengeis quite simple, throw a grenade at your opponent(s) and they will be eliminated from the race. Normally, using a weapon will get you disqualified, but using a grenade is fine by the games standards, and this method is a lot less cheap than the other one for this challenge, and works just as effectively.

  • Get No Stars While Blowing Up Vehicles

In a helicopter you won't get any stars if you use the chaingun for blowing up cars instead of the rockets. Even if they're right behind the guy you're shooting. As long as you don't kill any pedestrians or hit a cop car with a stray bullet.

  • No Timer on Quarry Mission

On the mission where you have to steal dynamite for a Wuzie mission you normally have a timer but if you go to the center of the construction site there is a grey stage with a person on it and the dynamite plunger right in front of him. If you kill him the timer will stop and you will have all of the time you need to complete this mission.

  • Easy High Score in the Arcade Game "They Crawled From Uranus"

Once the game starts simply hold the joystick in one direction and the aliens' fire will never hit you. If you fire while doing this you can easily rack up points without ever dying.

  • Get out of debt trick

To get out of debt, no matter how far you are in, find a Unique Stunt Jump that you haven\'t been rewarded on yet. Hit the jump and you will be rewarded. However, this causes your money counter to reset to all zeroes.

  • Free ammo without pay purchase

Enter an ammunation shooting range and then press triangle to leave it. Gives full ammo to whatever gun you had equipped.

  • Get Twice the Amount of Progress With Girlfriends

You have to have two controllers for this trick. When you go to your girlfriend's house you have a choice of either going on a two player free roam or going on a one player date. However, at the end of the one player date the two player icon (usually located by the door) will linger for a few seconds. You have to quickly go into the icon and activate it before it disappears. After that you can either end the free roam quickly or play around it doesn't matter. If your one player date was good and you gained progress you will gain even more progress from the free roam. However, if you had a bad date you lose more progress by activating it.

  • Infinite Spray Paint

In the earlier Sweet Mission "Tagging up Turf" you receive an infinite spray paint can. Since there is no timer on this mission, you can go around Los Santos with the FAQ tag map and spray all the tags without refilling the paint. Sweet!

  • Basketball Cheat

If you have a wanted level and start to play basketball, you cannot be injured in any way.

  • Have your picture taken.

To have a homie take your picture you need a gun and a camera. First Recruit a homie by targeting them with a gun and pressing up on the d-pad.
Then swith from a gun to the camera then walk near your recruited hommie. A message will appear on the screen. It will say to have your picture taken press l1.If you press l1 you will get to take a picture of yourself.

GTA: San Andreas Glitches

  • Early Bulletproof Savanna

After you finish the 'High Stakes, Low-Rider' Mission, Cesar and his car stay at the finish line, doors locked. You can push the car to the nearest garage and the doors will become unlocked.

  • Headless CJ

Find a katana, then go into two player mode (by finding a icon that shows two red figures). Have player two chop your character's head off, and then when you go back into one-player mode CJ will have no head, and a nasty little blood effect.

  • Stop Rival Gangs from taking your Territories

To stop a rival gang from taking your Territories, go to a safe house and save when ever the message "your area is under attack" appears on the screen. This will stop the attack and you get to keep you area. Warning: This may cause permanant negative effects to your game.

  • Cell Phone Guns

When talking on the cellphone, press Triangle to end the conversation then quickly switch to the tec9, in your hands you will have a cellphone that shoots!
(deactivates when you enter a vehicle)

  • Super Bike Jump

This requires that you are have a gun that can be used while riding a bicycle. Immediately after you release the jump button (L1), tap circle. You should tap and release fast enough so the gun does not actually fire. You can jump over 2 stories high this way if you time it right.

  • Mountain Bike Morphing

This glitch is similar to the bike morph glitch in vice city, but it has a limited area that you can use it. In this area you can not fall off the bike, so you can do flips and all other kind of insane stunts. To do this glitch you need:

1: Go to the top of Mount Chiliad
2: Get a Parachute (there’s one by the Journey on top of the Mountain)
3: Get on the mountain bike parked at the top of the mountain to start the mission “The Chiliad Challenge”
4: Use the ramp to the left of the beginning of the mission to fly of the mountain. Jump off in midair and open the parachute.

If done correctly you should now be morphed with the bike (parachute still open) Now you can do insane stunts without falling of your bike.

  • Wide Screen Mode

To do this go to any airport, and book a flight to anywhere. When you see the plane appear on the runway put in the "destroy all vehicles" cheat. You will die, and be sent to the nearest hospital, but the screen will stay wide screen. Ya know black bars at the top, and bottom of the screen. Note:The only way to get out of the wide screen mode is to book another flight, and either jump out of the plane, continue to the other airport, or do a mission. Also you will not be able to see the map, health, or armor bars, weapon, money, wanted lvl. and you cannot pause, or save the game.

  • Underworld Gateways

You'll need a jetpack to explore the Underworld.
Gate#1: Go to the sea's cliffs east of Los Venturas near Sobell Rail Yard. Now fly along the ledge near water level. There is a glitchy rock wall that you can pass through in one point. The wall twitches and shakes. When you get in, you may have to fly north a little before it lets you get under fully.

Gate#2: It's in a corner wall of your safehouse in Vinewood, right by the pool. Just walk into the wall at different spots until you find it.

  • Free paint jobs at Loco Low co. and Wheel Arch Angels

Tired of having the garages take away your beloved paint jobs on your cars? Don't want to spend $500 on a pretty flame paint job? Take your vehicle of choice to the Mod Shops across the state. When you are in the shop, highlight your painting of choice. Now press X and then Triangle VERY Quickly. Your car should have the paint job and you don't have to pay the money. However, this doesn't work with anything else. (colors, spoilers etc.) Also note that this will not fix up your car, and it will still be beat up.

  • No Traffic

Start a new game and get to the OG Loc missions. At the beach mission, talk to the DJ and respond positively. When she says lets dance, instead of talking to her again just run away and there will be no cars on the road. Save game, so you can do this whenever you want

Some fun things to do with this glitch are to turn on "all people hate you" cheat for zombie style survival horror game, or turn up the wanted level for fastest police chases ever.

  • Refill Nitro

Whenever your nitro runs out, leave your vechicle and get back in. Your nitro will be replenished and you won't have to wait two minutes for it to refill.

  • Skip Songs on Radio

You can skip songs on the radio. Change to another station, then change back to the station playing the song you hate. As soon as the text at the top of the screen saying the name of the station turns yellow, before the station starts to play, change the station again. Change back to the original station, and it will have skipped whatever song it was playing.

  • Reload Instantly

When you need to reload quickly press L2 then R2 or vice versa just before CJ runs out of ammo and you will instantly reload.

  • Melting Mountain Bike

Get a mountian bike, start to reverse by hold square, while holding it, start to tap X fast.
CJ's 3D frame will bend and stretch in crazy ways.
He'll even look like he's melting into the ground.

    Enjoy.

  • Infinite Photos

First you have to be in San Fierro and on the mission "Photo Opportunity". Fail the mission but don't reload. You will then have infinite "ammo" for your camera from then on.

  • Pay and Spray 2 cars

Go to the pay and spray, then bring one car half way to keep the door from closing and then push it inside with another car. The two cars will be fixed for the price of one.

  • pay and spray glitch

When you have a wanted level of any number of stars drive your car inside the pay and spray but before the door closes get out of the car. Aim your gun to look ahead and the cops, fbi, even the army will walk right by you even if u attck them while inside the pay and spray they wont see you. To get more cops to enter the area just exit the pay and spray and enter again. When u have grown tired of fighting just enter your car and the pay and spray door will close and then drive away with a clean slate!!!

  • Give homie your ride

When a homie is with you and you have a 2 seated car or more. Get into the car and hold up just as your homie gets in.

CJ will dismiss him but the homie will stay in the car a few seconds, then start driving away with it. Perfect for riding around in quads thorugh the countryside.

  • Easy cycling skill

This glitch allows you to upgrade you cycling skill faster. To exploit this glitch you first need to find a bike (no brainer), then you need to find a freight train and wait for it to stop. Do a bunny hop onto the back of the freight train so that you can ride it and stay on the bike. When the train starts to move again the bike will start to slide. At this point press the X button to pedal the bike. The bike should now be floating slightly above the train but will remain in place. You will notice that the wheels of the bike are moving at the some speed as the train even if you let go of the X button. This allows you to get cycling skills faster than with normal bike riding.
Note: CJ and the bike may become invisible while on the train. This is normal and will become visable again once you get off the train.

  • Transfender glitch

For this you need to have unlocked the transfender modding service. First find a car that you are willing to give up and can be modded by transfender. Take it to transfender go to the modding screen the press triangle to escape. Then before you do anything get out of the car and leave it there. There will be no traffic but if you get into a car traffic will come back, so to make it so you can get into a car you will need to kill yourself. Then you can get in and out of cars and there will be no traffic.

To turn traffic back on simply take your car to transfender goto the modding screen escape the drive your car out.

  • Continue wearing goggles

If you equip night vision goggles and then play an arcade game, when you quit the arcade game CJ will still be wearing them but the effect will be gone.

  • Tractor Tow Slingshot

When using a tractor you can pickup other vehicles by lowering the lift using the R stick, you can use this to super slingshot yourself and a semi truck. First obtain a tractor then lower the lift and back up directly into a semi to tow it. Now start driving and swerve a bit from left to right this for some odd reason will launch your tractor and the semi at ludicrous speeds.

  • Girlfriend bonus glitch

If you have dated any one of the girlfrined who give you a bonus Such as Katie or Barbara and you restart the game you will still have the bonuses they give you even if your not dating them!!

  • Reveal complete San Andreas map

Simply get in a plane or helicopter, at any stage during the game, and fly outside the games boundaries. Once you reach water, fly towards the end of the map and simply keep going for a few minutues, and eventually the whole map of San Andreas is revealed! This is a very helpful glitch to exploit, as it doesn't affect anything negatively and the map will always be revealed; even after the game is saved!

  • Create A Fountain

Grab a boat and head out to some deep waters. Grab a satchel and throw it in the water. For some reason the 'splash' of the impact keeps on going so the water keeps spraying up.

  • Un-hitch trailer from big rigs using camera.

If you have a trailer attached to the Tanker, Line Runner or Road Train, and you no longer want it, get a camera.
Go into the camera's 1st person view by holding R1, then press O. You will hear the trailer un-hitch. You need to be near the truck, and in an area open enough for the trailer to move away from the truck without hitting, or getting caught in a wall or other object.
It's a lot easier than losing the truck trying to jack knife the trailer off.

  • Ghost Country

Thie glitch removes all peds (and cops if it's done right) and cars from the game. It's great to use to explore the territory. On the mission 'Small town bank' for Catalina, after you grab the bikes, you'll end up at the unique jump spot. Jump it, but miss and fall into the river below (It works if you don't get the slow animation for the jump too, but if you do get it, the cops shouldn't be on the map as well as the peds). After you land in the water, you'll see a floating trooper dead. I don't know why that's there. Swim to Fisher's lagoon and head back to Palomino Creek, were the bank is. Nothing will be there. No cars driving or spawned, and maybe no cops. The alarm at the bank will still be going off, and the only places you will find anyone will be in a store like The Well Stacked Pizza or Ammu-Nation. Entering then exiting those places will not bring back the peds or cars, and the only way to do that is to go and rescue Catalina from the police ambush and take her back to her hideout. However, you can do anything in between the glitch and rescuing her, as she will not be killed by the cops. Just spawn a jetpack or car with a cheat and explore. You can go cover tags and find the oysters and stuff like that without worry that cops or gangs will attack you. Occasionally a parked car will spawn, but they are kinda rare. When you go to rescue Catalina, shoot the surrounding cops with a rifle from far away, and you can pick them off easy, and no other ones will come. I don't know what happens if you die or kill Catalina, so you can try it if you like and tell me about it and I'll correct this.

  • Keep mask after the burglary missions are done.

Start the burglary missions and park infront of a barber shop. Enter said shop and walk into the red circle to take a seat. Press X to view a haircut and wait until the time expires. Once the mission has ended press triangle and the barber will "put" the mask back on you. Now you may leave the barber shop with the mask on your face. Note: You may not change your clothes or die/ get busted the mask will disappear.

  • Chillad Challenge Infinite Money Glitch

As soon as the race starts ignore all over cyclists just head straight for the wooden ramp at the end of the mountain top when you get there try and pull the insaniest stunt possible. Just as your about to hit the floor you will respawn where you origanally started and still claim the stunt bonus award.

  • Weapons other than SMGs w/ two players in a vehicle

First, find a two-player icon either around town or a a girlfriend's house. Now if you have a SMG, then waste the ammo for it. Pick a different weapon, like a shotgun or rifle. When the second person gets in the vehicle, input the weapon code that would give you the weapon you have selected. If done correctly, then the second player should be able to shoot whatever weapon was selected.

  • Taking Gang Territory: Fish In A Barrel

While trying to take over gang territory, take one of the datable girls with you. Between waves of enemy gang members, if you give your girlfriend a gift or kiss them, the enemy gang members will freeze in place. They won't notice you around them, but if you throw a grenade at them or otherwise threaten them, they'll un-freeze. Grab a rocket launcher or molotov and you can take over territory really easy. Also, this would give you a chance to get the health and armor pickups in the area without being shot at.

  • Stop enemies from attacking your territories

At any time (until time runs out and they actually take over) get in either a cop car, firetruck, or ambulance and press R3 to start the secondary mission and then press it again to end the mission. This will make it so the attack has stopped, you keep your territory, and it will have no negative effect on your game (unlike the safe house glitch).

  • Barbara Glitch

If you go pick up Barbara for a date, she might say that you aren't fat enough to take her out. Instead of having to gain weight to be able to take her out, you can grab a car and a fellow gang member. To do this you have to have a Sadler and a Grove St. gang member in the car with you. When you do this, you go pick up Barbara for a date and she assumes you're heavy since the Sadler itself is heavy along with the gang member. You HAVE TO have the gang member with you, or else it will not work.

Finding Hidden Shops

Look at road signs around the city. They often have colored shapes (yellow triangles, etc.) to guide the way to the shops or other important buildings. Also, look for street-lights casting a colored glow. This indicates that there is a shop very close.

NFS Underground 2 Secrets

  • Get Nitrous quick

To quikly fill up you Nitrous meter before a race, simply turn while holding down the handbreak and accellerate and you will do a 360, which give you 400 points. You can do this up to three times

  • Cool Hydraulics Move

Going at medium speed, start trying to drive in a cirlce. Every half turn, press r1.. keep doing this about 6 or so spins, the driver will automatically go and do some sick hydro moves. The camera will also change positions.

    NFS Underground 2 Glitches

    • Hydraulics + Hangtime

After you have equipped your car (or SUV) with Hydraulics (Level 1, 2, or 3 will work) pull up to another vehicle or a wall and hold the R1 button and move your Left Analog Stick up and down in a rhythmic fashion to get your car rocking up and down (not bouncing). If you are close enough to the obstacle in front of you, your car will shoot straight up into the air, sometimes doing outrageous flips and spins. Once airbourne, release all the buttons, and if your car has soared into the sky parallel with the ground, "Hangtime" points will start to add up, sometimes 400+ Not very purposeful, but rather hilarious to watch. At the very least, you are refilling your nitrous/racebreaker. *Works in Online mode also*

    • Pop a wheelie (or a reverse wheelie)

Once your vehicle's Hydraulics have been upgraded to Level 3, if you are in a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, get your front end to bounce continuosly by double tapping and then holding the R1 button (handbrake) and pushing up on the Left Analog Stick a few times. You should now be able to release the R1 button and your RWD car (or SUV) should continue to bounce its front end. Having your transmission set to manual for best results, rev your motor all the way up and then shift into 1st gear. If your timing was right, your car will surge forward and pop a wheelie at the same time. Using nitrous once you shift into 1st gear will give you better results and may allow you to shift gears a few times before your car's front end drops back to the ground. You may flip over backwards if you take off too fast. With a front-wheel-drive car, simply get the rear hydraulics of your car bouncing and use reverse to pop a wheelie going backwards. You may have to rock your car back and forth by switching between forward and reverse throttle, but with the right touch, your FWD car should be able to do this trick also (going backwards of course), even though much less dramatic compared to going forward in a RWD car. You can have your car flip over in reverse also, or it may stand on its nose. This is not very purposeful, besides having other players (online) wondering how you popped a wheelie off the line. Sometimes you can "jump" other cars using this glitch, but during a race, you probably will not have enough time to go through all the steps. Worth a few laughs at least, and as said before, will keep other players (online) wondering...

    • Combining regular or hood vinyls with unique vinyls.

      1. Clear all the vinyls off your car or set the vinyls up exactly the way you want WITHOUT using any uniques.

      2. Once you have the regular or hood vinyls set up the way you want, install them.

      3. Go back into the vinyls menu and select the Unique vinyl you want and install it.

Once you install it, both the unique and regular vinyls will be installed at the same time.

This allows you to combine the unique vinyls that actually look good, with at least some sort of hood vinyls or body vinyls that make it a complete set.

This also raises your car's Star level higher than using just regulars or just uniques, so it makes it far easier to get to 10 stars.

    • Camera Glitch

When you crash into a car you will be presented with a slow motion cinematic display. Press the "Start" button to enter the pause menu, pressing the button again will resume the game, but this time you will see the camera change positions (behind the car) and you'll still be in slow motion.
This can be used towards your advantage however as this command is entered you can prevent yourself from tumbbling, or tilting the car, and land safetly back on the blacktop

  • Skip police chase after a maximum possibility police encounter race

When you race any race that has maximum potential for police encounter, a police chase will ensue sometime during the race. After the race you will need to get away from them so that the win and money won will stay. To completely skip this sometimes tedious process after a race, wait until you see the "auto-save" icon at the top of the screen disappear. Once it has disappeared (completed auto-save), hit reset and reload your profile. The race will show complete along with the money credits in your bank account.

  • Change Race Options

When doing race events in career mode, there is a way to change the amount of traffic, catch-up on/off, and number of laps.

For example, there is a race in "Race events" in the blacklist menu. It is a sprint type race, and the track is "Seagate & Camden". Go back to the main menu, and select quick race. Select custom race, and do a sprint on "Seagate & Camden". Set the options you want (i.e. No traffic, etc). Do the race. Go back into career mode and do that same race in the blacklist menu. Those options you selected in quick race mode will apply here. You can have no traffic, and turn off catch-up. It also means if you have a 4-lap circuit race in career mode, you can do this cheat and only have to do 1 lap.

trick NFS MW

  • Extra Money

If you start a new career with a memory card with Need for Speed Underground 2 file on it you get extra money when starting out.

  • Easy Money when You Sell a Car

Before you sell a car, go to a One-Stop Shop and reset all the exterior body parts (body kit, wheels, spoiler, hood, etc.) to stock. You will get a trade-in credit for the old custom parts and it will not lower the car's value when you sell it in the Safe House.

  • Perfect Launch

Watch your tachometer when at the starting line. Get your needle in the blue right when the race starts to get a perfect launch and gain some time against your opponents.
